| WIC is the Special Supplemental
Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. WIC serves
children 0-5 as well as woman who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or
postpartum. Children in WIC receive a medical screening, nutritional
assessment, nutrition education, and checks for nutritious foods that
are high in vitamins and minerals needed by young children. WIC is a
USDA wellness program. Children in WIC are screened for lead and
receive Farmer's Market Checks for Iowa grown fresh fruits and
vegetables every June. WIC also provides supplies for breastfeeding
to give infants the best possible start.
