Positive Opportunities for Parents to Succeed
POPS is a
home-based nurturing program for parents with children age 0-5. A trained
nurse or family therapist will meet one-on-one with the family. The POPS
program strives to:

- Teach parents
nurturing skills to help their children grow with a positive
self-concept and self-esteem.

- Promote
healthy physical and emotional development of self and others.
|
- Build empathy
and awareness of the needs of others.
|
- Increase
awareness of the developmental needs of a child.
|
- Help families to
learn to spend quality time together and have fun doing it.
|
- Empower parents to
seek healthy and safe outcome for their children.
|
- Find practical
solutions to every day family problems.
|

(POPS visits may be
billed to Medicaid or private insurance, but will not be billed to the
client)

- Provide demonstrations, teaching and
coaching of the parents to assure the child's health and safety in the
home.
|
Support and Modeling of : Infant Care,
Nutrition, Immunizations/Lead Testing, Home Safety, Infant Massage,
Car Seat Safety, Toilet Training, Pregnancy Prevention, Communicable
Disease, Finding Child Care, Stress Reduction, Dealing With Extended
Family.

The Navigator |
- Provides bilingual support and
assistance in accessing programs and services of Greenbelt Home Care
and Hardin County.

| Offers
counseling and support that will: |
- Increase the safety of children in the
home.
|
- Increase positive relationships
between child and parent, parent and parent.
|
- Increase resource management knowledge
of parents to assure a stable home that support the well-being of
children.

- Increase parent knowledge and access
to social, emotional, and mental health services.
|

The Homemaker and Home Care
Aid |
 |
- Will provide life skills training
- the how's and why's of laundry, meal preparation and household
organization
|
- Will provide limited hours of
Respite care allowing parents time away from a "colicky" baby
|
|
|
|
|
A "Tiny Treasures" incentive
program is available to parents providing points redeemable for baby
items when the parents comply with the determined plan and are home for
visits as scheduled. |

The "Team" can make
referrals for CPR training, infant massage, car seat safety, child
health clinics & immunizations, hawk-i, Head Start, Early Head Start,
WIC, physician and dental care, Child Care Resource Center, Early
Access, food banks, mental health/substance abuse services, Seeds of
Hope, Department of Human Services and HUD Housing. |
